The Oakland Raiders began trimming their roster in an effort to get to the required 75-player limit before Wednesday.
Fullback Chane Moline, offensive lineman Allen Smith, tight end Tony Stewart and wide receiver Paul Hubbard are no longer members of the Silver & Black. Oakland has to release another player by tomorrow.
The veteran Stewart was the only slight surprise. The nine-year veteran played three campaigns in Oakland, mostly in a special teams capacity, but while serving as the team’s NFLPA representative.
Tight ends Zach Miller and Brandon Myers round out the tight end unit, with Oakland possibly keeping the bulky John Owens for his blocking skills.

JOHN OWENS
- TIGHT END
- No: 86
- Height: 6-3
- Weight: 255
- Birth date: 01/10/1980
- College: Notre Dame
- Acquired: Signed as a free agent in 2010
Nine-year veteran John Owens signed with the Oakland Raiders during the 2010 off-season. Primarily a blocking tight end, the 30-year old will try to earn a spot on the roster competing against Tony Stewart. Oakland wants to free up Zach Miller more and add some bulk to the edge of the offensive line in support of Hue Jackson’s ground attack.
The Detroit Lions originally selected Owens in the 5th round of the 2002 draft. Since, he has played for the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks.
In his career, Owens has tallied 22 receptions for 178 yards and one score.
