Raiders start trimming the roster

August 31st, 2010 No comments

Chane-Moline-02pThe Oakland Raiders began trimming their roster in an effort to get to the required 75-player limit before Wednesday.

Fullback Chane Moline, offensive lineman Allen Smith, tight end Tony Stewart and wide receiver Paul Hubbard are no longer members of the Silver & Black. Oakland has to release another player by tomorrow.

The veteran Stewart was the only slight surprise. The nine-year veteran played three campaigns in Oakland, mostly in a special teams capacity, but while serving as the team’s NFLPA representative.

Tight ends Zach Miller and Brandon Myers round out the tight end unit, with Oakland possibly keeping the bulky John Owens for his blocking skills.

Exclusive Images from the Raiders OTAs

Here are more looks into the Oakland Raiders OTA sessions captured by photojournalist DeMarcus Davis. The Raiders will be headed into the summer with more optimism after an off-season of purging and solid acquisitions. Here’s a glimpse of what we saw just last month:

Yamon_Figurs00001

Yamon Figurs (#13) – Has been working at wide receiver, but Oakland would like to see him take a special teams return job after a lackluster effort in that area in 2009 from a revolving door of candidates.

Paul_Hubbard000001

Paul Hubbard (#16) – A long shot to make the club, but definitely a talent that could wind up on the practice squad eventually.

Allen_Smith00002

Allen Smith (#61) – The 6’4, 300 pound rookie out of Stanford could be a surprise along the trenches where Oakland is looking for anyone to step up.

Routt_DB_Coach

Stanford Routt’s (#26) playing time could be cut into, especially if some of the rookies or younger players on the roster can be playmakers in the secondary.
