Taiwan Jones Visits Pop Warner Football Youths (VIDEO)

Taiwan Jones poses with the East Bay Warriors academic prize winners

Runningback Taiwan Jones spent his day off visiting the East Bay Warriors Pop Warner football teams, ages 7-15, to bring home the message of sportsmanship, leadership, respecting ones elders, and most importantly academics Tuesday at West Oakland’s Raimondi Park. Jones also observed and helped players through various football drills.

Taiwan also had the opportunity to mingle with the various football/life coaches and talk about some of the history of Oakland/East Bay football. In one such instance, one of the senior coaches told Taiwan that he’s fielding 17 “Straight-A” students and that when he brought the kids to “Nationals”, he learned that his East Bay Warriors had the highest grade average amongst all the other teams there.

Taiwan, having been born in the Bay Area himself and now plays for the hometown Oakland Raiders, the kids were able to get up close to a professional athlete who walked in their shoes and lived in their neighborhoods. But most importantly, achieved an NFL career through nothing short of hard work, perseverance, and academics; central themes that have always been the mission statement of the East Bay Warriors.
