In 2006, the Oakland Raiders took notice of Ricky Brown during training camp and the pre-season, which led to his placement on the practice squad prior to the campaign beginning. On October 7, 2006, the Silver & Black added him to the active roster due to injuries that depleted their linebacker corps and since, has played in 29-league games and has tallied 21-tackles, mostly on special teams, where Brown is at his best.

The under-sized linebacker may not be able to crack the starting line-up, but his energy and willingness to give up his body on coverage teams has helped him earn a spot on Brian Schneider’s unit.

Brown was an exclusive rights free-agent this off-season before Oakland signed him to a reported $445,000 deal, and now is slated to become a restricted free agent in 2009. As training camp approaches, Brown must continue to impress on special teams in order to keep is job in 2008.
