Silver Spotlight: Hiram Eugene

HIRAM EUGENE
- FREE SAFETY
- No: 31
- Height: 6’2”
- Weight: 200
- Birth date: 11/24/1980
- College: Louisiana Tech
- Acquired: Signed as an undrafted free-agent in 2006
In 2006, the Oakland Raiders signed Hiram Eugene from the practice squad and placed him on the active roster, although he was inactive for the regular season finale versus the New York Jets.
But when 2007 came around, Eugene made his way onto the 53-player roster and contributed right away as a reserve and on special teams. Eventually, he started at Safety against the Kansas City Chiefs and had four-solo tackles in place of the injured Stuart Schweigert.
At mini-camps, Eugene has been very active, batting away passes intended for wide receivers down the field and showing good instincts breaking on routes and disrupting plays against many of the young targets on the Raiders’ roster.
Eugene will need to continue to make eye-popping plays if he plans on keeping his job in 2008 due to the plethora of talent that Oakland features in the defensive backfield.
