GERARD WARREN
- DEFENSIVE TACKLE
- No: 61
- Height: 6’4”
- Weight: 330
- Birth date: 07/25/1978
- College: Florida
- Acquired: Via trade from the Denver Broncos on August 20th, 2007, for a conditional fifth round draft selection
The Denver Broncos shopped Gerard Warren around the NFL last summer when they decided he wasn’t the right fit for their defense after starting 31-of-32 contests in two seasons.
The Oakland Raiders swapped a conditional fifth round draft choice to their divisional rivals for his services, a selection ultimately attained when Warren earned a roster spot at the start of the 2007 campaign. They also inherited his contract, which was for six years and $36 million with $10 million guaranteed.
Warren, the third overall player chosen in the 2001 draft, eventually made it into the starting line-up, replacing Terdell Sands a few games into the schedule, and recording three-sacks and one forced fumble during the team’s first four contests.
A quadriceps injury kept him off the field the ensuing four games and he capped his first year as a Raider with 22-tackles and 4-sacks.
In 2008, the Silver & Black expect Warren to be a integral part of their defensive line, rotating in-and-out of the line-up with the likes of Sands and Tommy Kelly.
