As first reported in the PREMIUM SECTION of Raiderfans.net, Javon Walker became a member of the Oakland Raiders on March 5, 2008. After the departure of unrestricted free-agent Jerry Porter, the Raiders were left very thin at wide receiver, leaving them with Ronald Curry as their lone returning pass catcher with any NFL experience.
Walker was inked to a six-year, $55 million contract that included $16 million in guaranteed money and the ability to earn up to $27 million over the first three years of the contract. The Raiders hope that Walker will bolster a passing attack that ranked 31st in the NFL in 2007. In his final year as a Denver Bronco, Walker started the season quickly with 17-receptions for 220-yards in two games before injuries sidelined him for the majority of the season.
A former first round draft selection of the Green Bay Packers, Walker has compiled 252 career receptions in 72 league games for 3,815 yards.
Denver acquired Walker for a 2nd round draft selection and immediately compensated him with a five-year deal worth more than $40 million upon his arrival in 2006. That campaign, he produced 1,084 yards receiving while hauling in 8 touchdowns a year after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in his final season at Green Bay.
