According to the NFL Network’s Adam Schefter, the Oakland Raiders signed safety Greg Wesley to a one-year contract.

The Raiders confirmed the signing Tuesday night on Raiders.com.

The Kansas City Chiefs let Wesley go last week after losing his back-up job to rookie DaJuan Morgan during spring practices. Wesley reportedly visited the Silver & Black on Sunday prior to landing the deal.

Chiefs President Carl Peterson had excused Wesley in June from mandatory sessions as they tried to trade him, but they eventually found no suitors for the 30-year old who stated he was “done with the Chiefs” in May.

In a story published by the Kansas City Star, Wesley stated, “We all know I’m not in their plans, so why are they holding me? They’ve had more than a year to trade me.”

He was scheduled to make $2.8 million this season.

The nine-year pro was drafted by the Chiefs the third round of the NFL draft back in 2000, and has been a fixture of the Kansas City secondary since, compiling 592 tackles during that span with 6-sacks and 29-interceptions.

In Oakland he will compete for a back-up job with the likes of Jarrod Cooper, Tyvon Branch, John Bowie, Rashad Baker, Darrick Brown and Michael Waddell.

UPDATED:

The one-year deal is believed to be worth $730,000.
