The Raiders have announced that they have signed quarterback Trent Edwards to a Reserve/Future contract. The team also announced the signings of defensive tackles David Carter (UCLA) and Torell Troup (Central Florida).

Edwards played his college ball at nearby Stanford University before being drafted in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Edwards remained with the Bills until 2010 with his career-best season happening in 2008 when he threw for 2,699 yards on 245-of-374 passing with 11 touchdowns and an 85.4 quarterback rating. Edwards has since been with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2010) and Philadelphia Eagles (2012), throwing just two pass attempts over the past three seasons. The former Cardinal was previously with the Raiders for training camp in 2011, and worked out for the team in October after being released by the Bears earlier.

Edwards has played in 38 games in his career, making 33 starts, and has thrown for 6,033 yards on 563-of-929 passing with 26 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. The signing adds competition but there’s no doubt that the Raiders will continue to look for a franchise quarterback.

Carter was originally a sixth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals. He appeared in 32 games, totaling 29 tackles, one sack, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Troup showed promise when the Bills drafted him in the second round (41st overall) but suffered a back injury that has kept him off the field since 2011. Troup spent the first two seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, playing 21 games, amassing 31 tackles and two passes defensed before the injury occurred.
