Rookie Tyvon Branch finalizes deal with Oakland Raiders

Tyvon Branch

Today, the Oakland Raiders announced that they came to terms with their 4th round draft choice Tyvon Branch.

The 100th overall selection, who was acquired after the Silver & Black moved up from their original 104th slot via a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, stated per the official Raider site, “It’s a big sigh of relief. It’s a very exciting feeling but I know it is only one small step.”

He continued, “It’s a dream come true. It seems like just yesterday I was a kid playing flag football, dreaming about playing in the NFL. Now I am here and it is just a dream come true.”

Rob Ryan gave some insight on how they planned to use one of the fastest players clocked at the combine a few months ago during rookie mini-camps, commenting, “We think he’s going to be a safety for us. He’s going to be a good, solid player.

[Branch] is a hard-hitting young man. He’s really fun to watch.”

The Raiders will also give him a look on special teams, especially after losing cornerback Chris Carr in free agency this off-season.

Ryan stated, “We’ve seen just about every game they’ve played this year and really we’re excited about him, and I know our special teams coach Brian Schneider is really excited about his returnability also.”

Terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
